The DCR team had a fantastic time attending and exhibiting as Gold Sponsors at the ISACA Northern England Chapter AGM yesterday!

ISACA Northern England Chapter, part of ISACA, are a globally recognised IT professional community dedicated to empowering excellence in information technology (IT) governance, security, risk management and assurance. The ISACA Northern England Chapter serves professionals across the Northern England region, providing a platform for networking, professional development, and knowledge sharing in the ever-evolving field of information technology.

The ISACA Northern England Chapter AGM attracts a diverse group of attendees, including IT auditors, cyber security professionals, risk managers, and governance experts. These professionals gather to share knowledge, network, and explore the latest industry trends and challenges.

This year, the AGM was held at the stunning Bremner Suite, Leeds United Football Club, Elland Rd.

The event provided an invaluable opportunity for the DCR team to engage with like-minded professionals, enhance our brand awareness, share detailed insights about our services and expertise, and spark meaningful conversations.

Raj Kohli and Paul O'Leary from the DCR team delivered an insightful presentation on 'Influencing the Board and Senior Stakeholders'. They emphasised the importance of influencing board decisions and senior leadership teams to enhance operational resilience.

Influencing the Board and Senior Stakeholders

  • Cohesion in Teams

Raj and Paul described how high-performing organisations resemble cohesive teams where everyone, from the board to operational staff, works towards common goals. Effective interaction and seamless processes are essential for resilience and success.

  • Challenges of Board Reporting
Our session highlighted the inefficiencies in current board reporting practices. A staggering 70% of board members rate their board packs as weak or poor, emphasising the need for concise, insightful documentation that supports productive conversations and decision-making.

Learnings from Experience:

Drawing on over 9,822 hours of collective experience, Raj and Paul shared three critical lessons:

Cultural Awareness: Recognising and adapting to the different cultural dynamics within organisations.

Building Allies: Establishing strong relationships to navigate complex stakeholder environments.

Leading at All Levels: Emphasising that leadership is about influence, not just position and that everyone should be encouraged to lead in their roles.

Case Study: The Resilience Pendulum:

A real-life example illustrated the resilience pendulum, where a company's growth objective turned into a crisis due to a lack of cohesion and understanding within the team. DCR Partners intervened to align the security and resilience teams with business objectives, fostering better communication and building credibility, which ultimately led to improved operational resilience.

Key Takeaways:

Raj and Paul concluded their talk with practical steps for driving commercial awareness and resilience:

  • Deliver on promises to build credibility.
  • Speak the common business language to ensure clarity.
  • Understand business levers and the market landscape.
  • Be solution-oriented and pragmatic.
  • Break down technical jargon for better understanding.
  • Emphasise opportunities and the impact of inaction.

If we didn't get a chance to connect at the event, feel free to reach out – we'd love to discuss how DCR can help you maximise business objectives and commercial goals balanced with effective risk management.
